Dr. Nana Kusi (Ph.D.), was born in Kumasi, Ghana, West Africa in the late ’80s. Due to both of his parents being civil servants, he moved around a lot within Ghana. He grew up in four major cities (four regions) out of the then ten regions in Ghana, precisely, Sunyani (Brong Ahafo Region), Cape Coast (Central Region), Koforidua (Eastern Region), and finally Kumasi (Ashanti region). Nana obtained a BS in Agriculture from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana in 2011.
Following his mandatory one-year national service (2011 -2012) at the Crops Research Institute of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CRI-CSIR), Nana left the shores of Ghana to pursue graduate education at the University of Wyoming, Laramie, the USA in 2013. After his successful completion of MS in Agronomy in 2015, Nana got accepted to Texas Tech University in the summer of 2015 to pursue a Ph.D. in Plant and Soil Science and graduated in May 2019. Dr. Kusi then got a post-doctoral research associate position at the Agricultural Research Station of Virginia State University (VSU) where he’s researching a novel teff/poultry integrative study. Dr. Kusi while at VSU happened to meet Dr. Gwen Thornton, the founder of Mimosa International Foundation one day in March 2020, during the early days of the novel COVID-19 pandemic. They happened to talk about Ghana and both realized they had a common interest in community development and education. Dr. Thornton thus invited Dr. Kusi to join the Board of Mimosa Foundation International and the rest is going to be history. Dr. Kusi loves road trips, sightseeing, soccer, basketball, and more recently American football aside from his community development passion.
